Justice Reinvestment in Australia: more for your dollar in dealing with crime?

ABSTRACT: Justice Reinvestment (JR) is a recent development in criminal justice enjoying a spectacular rise onto the political and policy agenda internationally. In Australia, the idea has gained traction among politicians and community advocates, with particular emphasis on its potential in the Indigenous context. This presentation will discuss the JR framework, its operation in the USA, will consider issues around generation and investment of 'JR savings' from penal moderation and reflect on the need to consider critically the Australiansiation of JR.
